The Acock family in Birmingham before 1800

All these references date to before 1800. We have not attempted to go beyond that date.

The Acock family and Yardley

The records referring to Yardley nearly always contain the names Acock and Acocke rather than any of the other connected or unconnected variants like Acockes, Acocks, or Aycocks. These have been assembled from references to deeds and other old documents, from work by Bickley, the IGI, the National Burial Index on CD-ROM, and the national Archives http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/. We have tried to extract references from the Yardley church registers, but they are very difficult to decipher. Jan Pick has undertaken the task of transcribing the registers, and we are greatly indebted to her for most of the very early records. The first two sets of sources are in the Birmingham Central Library. Births, marriages and deaths nearly always refer to Yardley church

The Acock family and Birmingham

There are some connections with Birmingham, but we do not know which of the ones mentioned here relate to the Acocks Green branch. The records are taken from the IGI, from deeds in Birmingham Central Library, and transcriptions of the records of St Martin's church (1550s - 1708) and some St Philips records. Before 1800 spellings other than Acock and Acocke are rare in Yardley. We have included some different spellings here, as spelling seems more variable in the Birmingham records.
