Watermills of the Cole valley

This book is taken from Watermills of the Cole and Blythe valleys, written by John Morris Jones from work done up until the early 1960s. He acknowledged it to be work in progress, and he updated some of the information in other works until his death in 1986. The editor is not in a position to revise the text wholesale, and there is no great purpose in that, as George Demidowicz's definitive work on local watermills is eagerly awaited. Therefore, there are bound to be inconsistencies between what is said in these pages and elsewhere in John Morris Jones writings on this site. Despite that, the level of detail provides additional information, worthwhile in itself, as are the sketch maps.

The section on the Blythe valley mills has not been digitised. It was decided to include all the Cole valley mills, as this was an obvious integrated part of the whole work, even if they were not all in Yardley. It was anyway debatable if a mill was in Yardley if the works were outside, even though leats and pools may have been within the Parish, so to avoid that argument they have been included. So there is material in here that is a bonus!
